LeCoultre was formed in 1833 in Vallee de Joux, Switzerland. They primarily concentrated on the improvement of steel for watch parts and subsequently became famous for their high quality drives, which included the invention of the "Milliometer." In 1930 they merged with Jaeger, a watchmaker to the French Navy and supplier of Cartier. Henceforth, they have produced high quality watches under the name Jaeger LeCoultre and have supplied high quality movements to other companies including Cartier, IWC and Vacheron Constantin among others. Today, they hold the regal position of largest quality movement supplier and manufacturer of fine timepieces.
